I got a call yesterday from Mr. Asay, one of my old, really old, high school teachers. He asked if I would come out to the school and help photograph this years Vaudeville show. Well I was really glad I did. This is the last year this theater will be used. Next year they will be performing in the new theater that is currently under construction.
This show was filled with commentary from the former theater director Kathy Parks (K.P.) and Matt Hart, the current director. We got to hear a lot of the history of the theater, how it was started and where its going. Now me personally I wasn’t active in the theater club all those years ago, but did perform in Vaudeville my Junior and Senior years with the choir, yes I was a choir boy shut up, and in the Spring musical my Junior year of “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown. I played Pig Pen. No, there are no pictures and if any surface they will be destroyed.
I don’t think I’ve actually stepped foot in that theater in almost 20 years, but when I walked in last night not much had changed. Still had the same smell, look and feel. I remember taking iStep test in there. Those seats suck after a few hours of that.
Vaudeville for those of that don’t know is a variety show. This one like the ones years before it had everything we’ve come expect… Singing, dancing, comedy. This year there were a handful of classic skits revisited on honor of the history of the show. I remember the character of Edith Ann being done back in my day. The girl who did it last night played her as well as Ive seen and will as always be one of the unforgettable characters again. Well I don’t want to become a theater critic so I’ll leave it at that. I will say the show as usual is going to be a great one. IF you’re looking for something different to do this weekend head out to Gibson Southern High School to see Vaudeville 08.
